Blue Water Black Magic

blue water black magic back

A very important part of New Zealand's maritime history captured in a complex exhibition at the Maritime Museum in Auckland.

Blue Water Black Magic – A Tribute to Sir Peter Blake is an engaging, inspiring, educational, fun family-targeted interactive exhibition. Featuring the 1995 America’s Cup-winning boat NZL32 – Black Magic, the exhibition commemorates the life and work of Sir Peter Blake.

MPM Projects were involved from the outset to assist the National Maritime Museum in compiling documentation for fundraising purposes. As there were many stakeholders including the Government, Auckland City Council, Corporate Sponsors, Charitable Sponsors and individual donors, each of their individual requirements for the project had to be met while still maintaining the vision for the overall project. For example, the theatre was named after the Lion Foundation and this had to be coordinated with the design.

During the construction phase MPM Projects maintained liaison between the main contractor and the fitout/exhibition contractor to ensure seamless interface between the two.

Programming was of the utmost importance as the opening date had to be set in year in advance to accommodate the Prime Minister and dignitaries from around the world.
