Site 13 Playground

site playground sand

The former industrial space was transformed into a playground, taking the surrounding maritime history and present into account for its design

The hottest kids’ playground in town. The maritime themed play space reflects the reclamation of the ‘old seafloor’ with sand, shells and bedrock. There are stylised mussel stacks, rock pools, kelp structures and “Kina Spinners” which are a modern-day version of a roundabout. The climbing structures represent anemone, the monkey bars were created using real life buoys, and the entire playground is sited on sand, where children can play to their heart’s content. Reused and salvaged materials have been used wherever possible. Even the basketball court is a former building’s floor slab.
