Construction of a new regional ambient distribution centre based on the outskirts of Palmerston North in an existing developed industrial area.
This development consists of an approximate 37,000m2 warehouse and 1,200m2 office and amenities building. The overall development site area is around 100,000m2 with the balance of the site being used for yard, truck access, carparking, ancillary buildings and landscaping.
Designed with sustainability, efficiency, and user experience at its core, the facility has achieved a 4 Green Star Design Review rating, reflecting industry best practice in environmental performance. It incorporates a range of innovative features such as extensive skylights that maximise natural daylight throughout the warehouse, intelligent lighting control systems with daylight and occupancy sensors, high acoustic performance in staff areas to enhance comfort, above-code insulation for superior thermal efficiency, and an advanced rainwater harvesting system, among others.
One of the most critical aspects of this project was the successful delivery of such large slab within a relatively small market. This required meticulous resource planning and coordination, ultimately enabling the project to be completed on time and within budget by Conslab in collaboration with the main contractor Watts & Hughes.
This distribution centre sets a new benchmark for sustainable industrial facilities in New Zealand, combining operational excellence with environmental responsibility and an exceptional workplace experience.
