This high profile project has revitalised a much loved inner city public space.
The project involved a much needed transformation to Freyberg Place, the refurbishment of the Ellen Melville Hall, street upgrade to the adjoining Courthouse Lane into a shared space and further extended the recently upgraded O’Connell Street.
A major part of the $11 million makeover includes not only the square, but the refurbishment of the 1962 Pioneer Women’s and Ellen Melville Memorial Hall as an urban community centre, with a range of flexible rooms for meetings, gatherings and functions.
