Mainfreight Beach Road is a purpose-built Major Hazardous Facility (MHF) in Favona, Auckland, conceived to set a new industry benchmark for dangerous goods logistics and regulatory compliance.
Occupying a challenging brownfield site, the project comprises a Class 3 dangerous goods bunker, warehouse, integrated office, carpark, and canopies.
Innovative construction strategies, such as on-site concrete recycling and the use of timber and steel screw piles, minimised embodied carbon and reduced environmental impacts. The facility boasts advanced stormwater management, extensive solar arrays, and rainwater harvesting, aligning with Mainfreight’s sustainability objectives. Full accessibility compliance, a commercial kitchen, and flexible, future-proofed systems support operational excellence and staff wellbeing.
The project overcame complex challenges including PFAS remediation, coastal proximity, and regulatory hurdles, resulting in Prince Gold Accreditation and a resilient, efficient, and sustainable facility that revitalises the local precinct and reinforces Mainfreight’s ESG leadership and long-term growth ambitions.
