Shed 10

shed nighttime

Initially the old cargo shed was refurbished for the Rugby World Cup 2011 before it was converted to a cruise ship terminal

Shed 10 involved the refurbishment of an historic cargo shed on Queens Wharf into a multi-functional cruise ship facility and events space. The cruise facility handles the majority of Auckland’s cruise ship visits and when not in use for this, it is used as a multipurpose events facility for up to 2,000 people. A high level of sustainability has been showcased in Shed 10 including the largest Photovoltaic installation in New Zealand.

MPM Projects provided Project Directorship services on the interim refurbishment of Shed 10 for RWC2011 and then for the full refurbishment into a Cruise Terminal and Events space in 2013. Our role included the development of the project brief and design, engagement of consultants and project leadership through to completion and occupation.

Our role included leading a significant project recovery phase when the main contractor went into receivership part way through construction. We were able to complete the project within budget and with minimal programme implication whilst maintaining the schedule of cruise ship visits and critical event bookings.
